Design Studio 2034

A panel discussion exploring the future of creative collaboration in design practice

As part of The New Standard, we partnered with Dezeen to host a panel discussion during NYCxDesign 2024. Hosted by Dezeen’s co-CEO Benedict Hobson at the Ace Hotel in Brooklyn, creative leads from the three studios: Satoshi Isono of Universal Design Studio, Emilie Robinson of Map, and Matt Delbridge of Made Thought. Together they discussed the thinking behind their cross-disciplinary collective, The New Standard.

Formed in 2021, The New Standard was created to foster closer collaboration between the studios while allowing each to maintain its unique specialism. The event offered an opportunity to hear discuss collaboration in design, whilst sharing insights on how this model is reshaping the way we work: focusing less on individual outputs and more on collective impact.

Throughout the discussion, the panel reflected on the need to move beyond siloed approaches to design, returning instead to a more integrated, human-centred philosophy.

“We have our studios all on the same floor. We all work together and influence each other’s work. And that’s really what it’s about – creating something that feels really coherent and consistent.”
