Ligthweight and durable helmet for urban cyclists

A helmet for the urban market

We worked with Dashel to develop a cycling helmet for the urban cyclist. A combination of rigorous safety requirements and a performance-led market have meant that for decades, helmets have been predominantly bulky and sporty. A combination of researching and iterating the right technology and a subtle and refined approach to industrial design make Dashel helmets more appropriate to the needs of urban cyclists.

Iterative design and testing

Dashel helmets are made from a durable multi-impact foam liner and a carbon fibre shell. This combination means the helmets last longer and are lightweight and slim. We worked closely with Dashel and an international test house to refine and iterate the design to pass and exceed the safety standards. This required several iterations of the design and much research on our part to understand the tests themselves.

Pared-back design made in the UK

We helped Dashel hone the distinctive profile, minimal venting, fit and hand-crafted details that make their helmets less overtly sporty and more appealing to the urban cyclist. The carbon fibre shell is handmade in the UK by a family-owned factory with years of helmet-making experience. This is married with simple but well-executed details such as a simple leather carry loop; a woven harness from a traditional British manufacturer and an easy-on and off magnetic clasp.
